"Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." Genesis 2: 8-9 NIV
As a contributor to this site, it is my hope that we Moms can help each other improve the health of our families. Admittedly, I have been in the health care field for the past 15 years and some things have naturally boiled over into my family's life-things that I would like to share with you along this journey. While in practice, I was creatively challenged to help folks feel motivated to change some damaging daily habits into ones that would help preserve their health.
Here are some things I'd like to share with you about what I have learned over the years.
-
Fruits and veggies are not "optional." Condiments are.
-
You need to exercise and it's easier than you think.
-
Daily time with the Lord is essential.
-
Posture matters.
-
Kids will do what you do and say what you say.
I snuck the last one in to help us all realize that just as right speech and right actions filter through us to our children, so do our food choices, how we exercise and how we manage stress. How we do these things not only dictates the energy we bring to each day, but also teaches our children. If you feed them a healthy breakfast, but neglect to eat yourself, they learn this behavior.
What have been some of your challenges in maintaining the health of your family? How have you handled them and did you feel that it worked? Are there any ongoing health care concerns blocking your ability to be a better mom?
My prayer is that we will learn, be encouraged and be inspired in our daily walk to be better moms in the eyes of the Lord! With love and blessings, Sarah
