I had kind of a rotten day. You know, the one where at some point going to bed and starting over again the next morning sounded pretty good. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I knew something wasn't right. I was knotted up on the inside. I was in need of perfect peace.
"You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You." Isaiah 26:3 (AMP)
I got quiet and asked the Holy Spirit why I was feeling so lousy. He is so faithful to answer when I get settled enough to ask. Gently he reminded, "What are you thinking about?"
And it hit me. At that moment I took inventory of what thoughts were running in my head. Friends, it was ugly in there.
“Your hair sure looked frizzy today.”
“Look at all those pimples on your double chin.”
“Fatty, fat, fat, fat...Fatty, fat, fat, fat.”
Yup. That was the sad state of my should-be-victorious mind. I had allowed myself to be so frazzled and worn by the activities of that day, that at some point my mind slipped. I was knocked off my meditating on my power verse. The enemy tricked me into thinking on his lies. No wonder I was physically and mentally tired. And my poor double chin had hurt feelings too!
"[Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)" 2 Corinthians 10:5 (AMP)
I encourage you ladies to think about what thoughts you're thinking on. Do you have a running record of frizzy hair, pimples and fat? Or, are you filling your mind with God's Word? On days when I'm encompassed with strength, power and ability, I know those are the days that I willingly cling to Gods Word. The Bible tells us to think on good, true, perfect, and lovely things. Sometimes as I'm alternating between breastfeeding, book reading, math helping, water boiling, and possibly vomit cleaning--I forget. I let any thought slip in. That's not how I want to live. I want to live victorious, on purpose!
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
Here's a few more tips on keeping God's Word on the forefront:
- Play an audio Bible on repeat
- Play Bible teachings on repeat, even if its a room you're not in. It keeps the Word alive and active in your home.
- Hang up scripture that you can quickly say throughout your home. I have a fruit of the spirit confession hanging at all of our sinks. Every time we wash our hands,we also speak forth God's Word.
- Pick one powerful verse and go with it. Write that verse on your hand if you have to. Chewing on that verse throughout the day, rolling it over and over in your mind.
