One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the confidence that God made them special and unique. The Bible says that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" and that God knows every hair on our head. Psalm 139:13-16: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
As parents of four children ages 12, 10, 7 and 5, one thing we have tried to be especially intentional about is speaking words of life to them. We don't want to just speak words to our children, we want to speak words over our children. Words like these are spoken often in our home: "Did you know that God loves you so much?" "God wants to use YOU to change the world." "Did you know that God gave you unique gifts to use to glorify Him?" "You are so beautiful." "You are so handsome." "I love you." "There is nothing you could ever do to make me stop loving you." I believe that the words we speak over our children will impact them for their entire life.
