Finding Rest in the Example of Those Who've Gone Before
Are you tired?
I sure am.
I'm worn out from three years of transition, three international moves, navigating three school systems in as many years, and walking through the grief of losing my father-in-law. Now, we are facing another major transition and, at times, I find myself lacking the spiritual energy or wherewithal to lift long, heartfelt prayers, and I need rest.
Can you relate?
In times where my mind just won't catch up to my heart, I like to look to the example of other believers who have walked this journey of faith head of me. Sometimes their words articulate perfectly the cries of my heart when my own words fail me. And each year in March, my mind turns to Patrick. So, these days when words fail me, I find myself turning to this beautiful prayer attributed to this giant of the faith.
Friends, our true rest is found in Christ and Christ alone. So, on those days when your heart is spent and aching, when your spirit is rendered mute by fatigue, let this be your prayer. Get in the Scriptures and let His words speak for you.
Allow yourself to sit at the foot of the Throne of Grace let the words of Jesus, the person of Jesus, the love of Jesus wash over you. Come to His presence and steep in it; soak Him in until your thoughts, words and actions taste of Him. And let the One who calmed the wind and waves speak over you, "Peace! Be still."
Blessings,
Jennifer Deibel
