Mar 27 How God Can Use Your Home in the Great Commission

Come close, Sister.

I have something to tell you that is SO POWERFUL. It could literally change your life because it will drastically impact your relationships.

Do you feel like you're not fully filling your CALLING?

Do you ever desire to be DOING something more to serve God?

"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." Matthew 28:18-20, The Great Commission

When you think of The Great Commission, do you get excited? Or, do you feel convicted, like maybe you are not participating?

Do you look at your husband and think, I really want to serve with Him, but I just don't know how?

God has actually already thought of a great idea for how you and your husband can join Him in the Great Commission, and you can begin today!

It's called practicing Hospitality.

Hospitality is ONE of God's MANY avenues for furthering the Kingdom of God!

It's powerful. Think about the times when you have shared intimate moments with others, those times when you have opened up about trials, or shared things that you were rejoicing about.

It usually happens over a meal, in a safe, intimate setting, not in a public restaurant with dim lights, blaring music and waitresses constantly serving. Sometimes going out to a restaurant can be the ticket, like if you have kiddos and need a more private place to talk, but typically speaking deep conversations happen when you practice hospitality.

What prevents people from practicing hospitality, from really getting to know one another on a real transparent level?

-Unrealistic Expectations
-Perfectionism
-Dissatisfaction regarding Home Size & Quality of "Stuff"
-Unsure & Unconfident in Ability to Cook
-Don't Know What to Cook
-Too Busy
-Too Independent

I am sure you could quite a few good reasons to my list, but the reality is that these are NOT good enough reasons in the eyes of the Lord. He wants us to practice hospitality because it is good for us. Hospitality is healthy for us and God actually wants it to be a part of our lifestyle!

I want to urge you Sister, not to let these reasons or others, which are not biblical, to stop you from obeying the Bible regarding practicing hospitality! It is for all our good that we practice hospitality.

Making Hospitality a part of our lifestyle requires us to make some perspective changes and maybe even some clarity in the definition of what hospitality is and is not biblically.

Many people tend to think that hospitality requires entertaining people, but the truth is that is entertaining, and it's different. Entertaining is an event, hospitality is a way of life--being hospitable and putting others needs before your own. Being hospitable takes intentionality.

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Hebrews 3:12

We need to recognize that inviting "new friends" aka strangers into our homes can be a huge blessing to both them and our families! This is one way God grows His church, through relationships, and He has invited you to join Him, you and your family to join Him.

"Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." Romans 12:10-15

Rejoicing and weeping are both much more likely to happen within the safety of a home that has been covered in prayer. Truthfully, having people into our homes is inviting them into our lives and it opens us up in ways that words cannot. Hospitality in your home automatically makes conversation more personal. It's also within the walls of a home that other people are able to see what is most important to you, what you value, and who you value. This is how hospitality becomes an avenue to partner with Christ in the Great Commission.
