5 Scriptures For The Mom Struggling With Her Body Image
Since the very beginning of time Satan came as a serpent to tempt Adam and Eve by distorting the truth of God's Word in the garden. (Genesis 3) . He started with a question to Eve, βDid God really say?β And boom.
Doubt entered the world and the hearts and minds of all mankind. A tactic the enemy still uses today, especially in women, and especially in Moms. In our identity, in our value, our worth, and our children. And the enemyβs main tactic is not only to question our true identify, but to get our eyes fixed on ourselves, instead of our Creator.
Fast forward to when Jesus walked the earth, and we can see that the enemy used the same tactics when he tempted Jesus through the form of deception (Matthew 4). He is still using deception, lies, and distortion of the truth to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10)... and it is all done with one motive: to steal our identity.
The enemy has and will continue to aim his attack at our identity for one simple reason. If he can rob us of the truth of who God is, and who we are as his daughters, he can steal everything that God has destined for us to become here on this earth.
But it doesnβt stop there.
We have a calling, and the good news is that God has given us everything we need to fight against these lies and attacks, and when we see God as our One Truth, we will always overcome!
But, we must do our part, which means using the weapons that He has given us to defend and fight against the lies that the enemy aims at us. We as women, as Mothers, are not to just fester in the lies, but to use what Ephesians calls the Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God!
Below you will find scriptures that you can meditate on, and use to fight when the lies of the enemy are after your identity as a child of God, a precious daughter of the King, and the valuable woman and mother that you are in Christ. It's time to raise our swords, ladies, and fight back against the enemy of our soul using God's powerful Word! Let us remind ourselves, and others in our #mamatribes who we are in Christ, as He continues to reveal the plans and purposes he has for us as we renew our minds by the Word of God, and who we are in Him.
God is the artist who created us, and His Word is full of truths reminding us exactly who we are as His heirs. If someone you know is struggling with their identity, or self-image, share some of these verses as a reminder of who they are in Christ!
1. For you formed my inward parts; β¨ you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.β -Psalm 139:14
The word βfearfullyβ in this verse is actually translated from the Hebrew βto inspire aweβ. My friend, God didnβt just make you, He purposefully FORMED you in awe! The crinkle in your nose when you laugh (and probably hate), the stretch marks or scars from where you brought a new life into this world with destined purpose, your laugh, your smile that may be too loud for others at timesβ¦ God made all of it, all of you, and intricately formed you in your motherβs womb, and my friend, He made you wonderfully. So please, guard your thoughts about yourself as you would want your daughter to guard hers.
Father, I thank you that you created me in your image. You knit me together in my mothers womb, and I am wonderfully made by you. I thank you Father for the great thought and care that you put into every detail when you created meβ¦and for the gifts and talents that you have given me to fulfill the specific purpose that you have for me. Forgive me if I have ever compared myself to someone else, or doubted the unique beauty that you have placed inside of me. Help me to see the wonderful works of your hand in every detail of my being that you have created. In Jesus name, Amen.
2. βDear brothers and sisters, you are dearly loved by God and we know that he has chosen you to be his very ownβ -1 Thessalonians 1:4 (TPT)
When lies from the world tell us weβre not smart enough, tall enough, thin enough, pretty enough, funny enough or good enough, we need to fight those lies with the Word of God! That He doesnβt just love us, but He has called us to a unique plan that only WE can fulfill on this earth. Something special He has chosen US for, to be His very own!
3. So God created human beings in his own imageβ - Genesis 1:27
That means, every time you look in the mirror, and donβt like who you see, you are not seeing yourself clearly. You are not seeing yourself in the image of God. God made us to truly reflect Him to this world that needs to see our light. Donβt let the enemy steal your identity through the deception of comparison. There, in our very reflection are glimpses of Godβs character, of his infinite beauty. Pray that God would give you a heart to see that the next time you feel unworthy or unlovely.
4. Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you wonβt need to compare yourself to anyone else.β - Galatians 6:4
We are not called to fit into the patterns and lifestyles of this world. Which means, we are not called to compare our bodies, our callings, our priorities, our standards to them, either. But rather, to keep our eyes fixed on JESUS to daily reveal who we are in HIM. We are called to OUR purpose. We are called to find our identity not in what we see looking back at us in the mirror, but who God has created us to be. We need to embrace that, without ever worrying about how we measure up or compare to someone else.
5. For we are Godβs masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. - Ephesians 2:10
We are Godβs masterpieces. Not His leftovers, not His rough drafts, we are Godβs very best work comparable to a masterpiece as breathtakingly beautiful as a starry night sky. If God sees us as His priceless creations, as His works of art, why would we want to change our appearance? Why would we want to be any different than we are?
So, my dear friend, when life, or the mirror has you feeling like youβre less than, ask God to remind you how HE sees you.
You are a masterpiece.
You are Treasured.
You are chosen, set apart, called to purpose.
You are beautiful.
And Your creator, the one who created you as a masterpiece from the time he formed you in your motherβs womb, loves you. You arenβt supposed to be like anyone else.
Cling to these truths. Use your sword - the word of God - to combat the lies of the enemy with the truth found in the Word of God. Print these scriptures, share them with your #mamatribe.
Blessings,
Dayna Mager, The Pause Pursuit
