Seeds that Stick {A Review of Seeds Family Worship}
A few days ago I was jogging around our small town. Not far from our house resides the prettiest place to view autumn in all her splendor- the cemetery. Abundant trees created a glowing canopy that invited me in for a deep reflection on life’s richness.
I walked in and attempted to scale the steep ledge down to a creek that I never knew existed, on the backend of the property. Having more difficulty than I anticipated, I made a mental note to wash my legs off because surely I had brushed against poison ivy on my impromptu hike.
As I emerged from the cemetery I realized there were small seeds stuck all over my side. These things were stuck on with strong desperation. I don’t know if I ever had so many on my clothes, shoes, and pants. I couldn’t get them off. I picked some of them and threw them along the rest of my jogging path, but resigned myself to leave the rest of them. There were too many and they were too tightly clung to deal with.
The last two weeks have been filled with good things. We have experienced the cooling weather, beautiful leaves floating through the air, and some new songs that have been playing in the car.
Seeds Family Worship is a company on a mission to get God’s Word into as many homes (and hearts) as possible around the world. They use music to weave scripture into the melody of their songs! They believe that God’s Word is living and active and that it can change lives. These living and active lyrics will be the truth that penetrates through the noise of the day.
Not only does Seeds Family Worship put scripture to song, but they also provide videos for home and church to reinforce what your children are learning. Artists likeMatthew West, Jared Anderson, Tiffany Lee (Plumb) have laid down some superb tracks that I think you and your family will enjoy.
Our family started by watching the Christmas DVD, which is titled Seeds of Christmas. My husband is a worship leader and youth pastor, so this was right up his alley. My four kiddos huddled around the screen and watched several of the Seeds of Christmas songs and you could tell in a short amount of time that these songs were catchy.
The DVD and CD (both are available for purchase here) walk the listeners through the story of Christmas. They believe in keeping kids focused on the true meaning of Christmas. They are able to excite little ones toward the story of our Savior by including engaging hand motions and high-quality videography/cinematic elements. Best, of course is that all the lyrics in these Christmas songs, are directly from God’s Word.
The week that we received some Seeds Family Worship resources to review was actually the same week that I was appointed to teach our junior church class. The content for my lesson was on Matthew 6:31-34, which says, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (NIV)
I was elated to find out that this very verse was on one of the CDs/DVDs that we were given! Not all of the songs on each DVD have hand motions, but this one did! I used it within my class and had a blast singing and dancing with the kids as we learned God’s Word! I loved it!
I listened to their cd titled The Journey while I was driving the other day. You guys. Listen to track 5 By Matthew West. It is my favorite! It is word for word scripture with no fillers and it will undoubtedly be playing in your mind much longer after it plays through your speakers.
After I arrived at my destination, I noticed one of those prickly, stubborn seeds from the cemetery creek that was holding on for dear life to the strap of my purse. It was interesting because I did not have my purse while I was on that little hike. I was out for a jog and I don’t know about you, but I don’t carry my purse with all it’s components while I’m out exercising. How did that seed get onto my purse? I’m not sure. This is what I do know; when we spread seeds, we may never know where they will cling, how far they will travel and how long they will stay. But as long as God keeps creating seeds, there will continue to be harvests.
It is the same with God’s Word. Keep planting seeds of scripture into your own heart. Keep planting seeds of scripture into the hearts of your children.
The truth of the Bible will show up in unexpected places at unexpected times in your child’s life. Spread those seeds of truth now. God will use them to bolster your child’s faith at just the right time. You never know what friends and extended family members will find a few seeds rubbing off on them too.
Spreading seeds and soaking up these songs of truth,
Lindsey Feldpausch :)
