Our destination that seemed so close began to look out of reach as I watched tires inch along the pavement. My plans for the day had quickly failed and I had no way of making things continue the way I wanted them to. For two hours we were stuck behind a five car pile-up. My heart fell into discontentment as I grumbled to my husband how my plans were ruined for the day, and I was tempted to make everyone else in the car feel miserable because I felt miserable. Thankfully I noticed that my heart wanted to carry on in discontentment but I chose to love my boys and be content. It was a perfect opportunity to teach them contentment no matter how annoying the situation was.
...for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. --Phil 4:11
When I'm stuck in two hours of traffic with my boys, when hormones are soaring, when life is more difficult than I planned, I am able to be content.
There are moments when contentment seems out of reach. But Christ is living in us and we have a relationship with Him, He gives us the strength to be thankful in all circumstances.
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. --2 Thessalonians 5:18
How many times do we live life in survival mode, living on our own strength? I am reminded and encouraged to give my weakness to Christ and conquer the day through His strength.
Blessings,
Natalie
